From Opinoni, we headed to Cape Reigna, the most northern tip of New Zealand – and so beautiful. There isn’t much there, but definitely worth the visit.

The cloud formation was so dramatic this day – it seemed fitting to have a no colour picture

The ‘Te Rerenga Wairua’ component of the name in Māori language means the leaping-off place of spirits. The ‘Reinga’ part of the name is the Māori language word meaning the underworld – both refer to the popular belief that the cape is the point where the spirits of the dead enter the underworld.

Whether you believe that or not, it’s cool to learn about the traditions and what this place means to the locals. This is also where the Tasman sea and the Pacific meet – creating a whirlpool effect.

You’ll find plenty of amazing, quiet spots for picnicking too along the way, if not much people is your thing, its perfect, with nothing much for about 100km south of the Cape.

Lunching, road trip style has become our favourite way to eat!

After seeing the cape, and refuelling, it was time for the fun part – TRAINING! Searching for a great spot didn’t take long, and south of the cape, was the Te Paki sand dunes. WOW. A place that could be a different world. So much SAND! We did an awesome strength session, with some high intensity sprints, followed by upper body work and the all important core training, all in the super soft sand (tough work!)

The relief of a finished workout!!
