Michiel stayed at the Principal Manchester, formally the Palace hotel. Luckily for us, they had a hotel gym – far too cold to train outside in this -100’C weather (little exaggeration, but it was cold!).

A fantastic, well stocked gym to ourselves – heaven!

Ever used a Bosu ball? Ever even heard of it? It is a that half ball squishy thing in most gym floors, that not many people go near… but can be super effective if used properly! We used it for squats!

The squat is primarily a lower body exercise, which targets the quadriceps and the glutes, but it also involves the hamstrings, the calves, abs, and the lower back. The squat is quite possibly the best overall strength-building exercise!

Contrary to popular belief, squats are actually very good for your lower back & knees… they strengthen both areas indirectly — increasing blood flow to the areas and actually promoting the regeneration of healthy muscle!

When using the bosu ball, Michiel’s body is forced to recruit numerous core and stabilising muscles in order to stay balanced. Win, win! Give it a go in your gym, and don’t forget to ask for help from the gym instructors – they are there to help you, and with a few tips, you will be successfully bosuing all over the place!
