The Kitchen is located around the corner from our rented house in Nelson, and rest day seemed the perfect day to give it a try for lunch.

First noticing the clean interior, it seemed a super cool and hip place to be, contrary to some other health cafes,ย that can be all about wooden benches and the ‘earthy’ feel. It made a refreshing change to be in somewhere so light, white and fresh looking.

A beautiful day to sit outside. They had a great terrace, with everything very clean and satisfying. They even had a help yourself water jug, which I always love, especially when they add lemon and mint. Although the cups were super small so we had to refill them every 10 seconds.

Though the menu is not all vegan (they serve meat!), which is always disappointing, there were plenty of options for us. We went for some coffee first, with almond milk, which they managed to froth to perfection – unusually so for nut milks.

We ordered the acai bowl, and of course, the vegan burger. Made with beans and vegan cheese, served with kumara (sweet potato) air fried chips.

A great tasting lunch – lots of flavour and the organic produce they used were clearly the freshest, crunches in all the right places, and the perfect texture. The acai bowl was particularly good – with fresh fruits and crunchy granola pieces piling on top ofย the icy acai.

If in Nelson – worth a visit! Delicious food, great service and a super relaxed cool environment.ย
