The ONLY, yes I repeat, ONLY vegan restaurant in Gibraltar. Of course we had to visit.

Kasbar has been open since April this year, and judging by how busy they were on a Wednesday afternoon, they’re doing something right.

From the street, you just see a door. We wondered what we were going to walk into, as it looked a little dingy and more like an old rave cave than a restaurant.

Walking down the stairs, we soon noticed all the detail, creativity and thought that has gone into this place. It was cozy, welcoming, and warm.

The walls were original brick, with warm lighting and just the right level of music, and talking. Artists pictures filled the wall, with some vintage artefacts, and a window in the back room shining natural light down into the homely dรฉcor.

The staff were extremely welcoming, and we felt totally at ease. This place had care and attention to detail in every corner. I like that – someone really cared when they designed this place, so nice to see. Passion.

The menu came rolled into a jar on paper, hand written

The food. The cauliflower wings were delightful, crunchy, with flavour and presented well. The hummus was nice, and just the right amount for a starter, not too overwhelming.

The main course, we chose the kasbar balls, and the burrito wrap. Both of which were devine. A mixture of flavours put together nicely complimenting each other. Whilst the kasbar ballsย were very hard to eat, it was worth the mess.

Little details, like water with mint and lime, make all the difference to a dining experience.

The deserts. Of course we had to try them. The custard tart, an English classic, that I had never tried vegan yet – I was not disappointed. Superb. Delicious in every way, and tasted exactly how I wanted it to taste! The chocolate cake was tasty, but a little dry, and could have done with some vegan cream, or maybe a chocolate sauce to accompany it. Other than that – a great end to the dining experience.

A great place to visit in Gibraltar. Maybe other places will see the success of Kasbar, and follow suit, as there isn’t much for vegans here! Great job at making this place cozy, stylish and a place people want to be.ย
