Napier

/

Napier – the coastal city, set amid the renowned wine-producing region of Hawke’s Bay. On the drive here, we couldn’t see anything but vineyards. But thankfully resisted the urge to go wine tasting… ‘remember what we are here for’. We couldn’t resist trying some grapes though.

Rebuilt after a 1931 earthquake that basically destroyed the entire town, Napier is known for it’s art deco landmarks.

It was time to test Michiel’s knee, so a small jog on the seafront, with some technique building, and ab work was the workout of the day. He is not ready for any long distances again yet, which is frustrating for us both, but I know the only thing for this knee is rest right now.

After working up an appetite, we had to head to the (pretty much only) vegan place in town! Chantal Organics. Greeted so warmly made us feel instantly good about this place. So many vegan options (& veggie), we ordered the Buddha bowl, Mushrooms on toast, asparagus, corn and quinoa salad, and of course green smoothies. Filled up with delicious goodness.

The food super tasty and the kitchen as a whole was a great experience. This place has a rustic feel, with a great emphasis on good tasty food and friendly relatable staff. Well worth a visit!
