The city of Barcelona is a great place, especially in the summer – the sunshine, the beaches, the Spanish culture, BUT, there it is also great to get away from the city life, especially in the summer! Seeking new adventure and cooler climates, we decided to head north of Catalunya to hotel Iori in the small town of Viella.
The four hour drive was filled with beautiful views around every corner.
I love to drive around in new places – seeing new things. It is so refreshing! As we arrived at the hotel, through the winding streets and old style architecture, we were shown around and shown to our rooms, which were basic, clean and in ‘treehouse’ style. The view from the windows were pure green – a welcome change!
It was so much cooler here, and as Michiels longest bike ride yet was drawing closer, it was the perfect place for it! The hotel staff were happy to help us plan the route, a 6am start, heading to FRANCE in the morning!
The food at the hotel was delicious – and they understood vegan, being a vegetarian hotel. The breakfast was basic, but tasty, with a selection of bread, fruits, jams, and tofu being served.
The dinner, which we booked in advance at the hotel, was Japanese inspired, and a buffet style that we could help ourselves to. Wow – what a meal! Rolls, salads, fresh potatoes – so colourful and tasty. Its worth coming here just to try the dinner menu! The next day, before getting back on the road, we ordered a picnic – which didn’t disappoint! A great hotel, with very friendly staff and delicious food – well worth a visit!
They even made us a delicious packed lunch which we ate on the way back exploring more places on route!
